Presence Journal Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

Your extension activity history stays locally in Chrome. We do not operate a backend that receives or stores that history.

1. About this policy and the data controller

This policy describes the information handled by the Presence Journal Chrome extension, this website, and support inquiries. The controller responsible for website and support-related personal data is Timothy Schlossareck. For privacy questions and to exercise your rights, email info@timothy-schlossareck.com.

Presence Journal is independent software and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by WhatsApp or Meta.

Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure

Presence Journal's use of information obtained through Chrome extension permissions complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data accessed by the extension is used only to provide its disclosed features. Extension activity records are not sold, transferred to third parties, used for personalized advertising or creditworthiness assessments, or made accessible to the developer.

Read the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy guidance.

2. Information stored by the extension

The extension stores the names of contacts you select, timestamps of observed online-status changes, and your extension preferences locally in Chrome. This information is used to display your activity journal, provide optional desktop notifications, and generate CSV exports when you request them. It is not sent to a developer-operated backend.

Presence Journal does not record the content of your WhatsApp messages. It does not use extension activity data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or sale.

3. Only already-visible information

Presence Journal observes only online indicators that WhatsApp Web already makes visible to you. It cannot reveal hidden online statuses, bypass last-seen or other privacy settings, or recover activity from before observation. Observation depends on WhatsApp Web being open, connected, and displaying the relevant indicators.

Please use the extension responsibly and respect other people’s privacy and applicable laws. An observed indicator is not a complete or guaranteed record of a person’s activity.

4. Local storage, notifications, and exports

Extension records remain in your Chrome browser profile until removed. People or software with access to your device or browser profile may be able to access them. Protect your device and browser profile accordingly. Desktop notifications may be visible to others who can see your screen.

CSV files are created only when you choose to export. Exported files are outside the extension’s storage and are your responsibility to store, share, and delete securely.

5. Support inquiries and Formspree

If you submit the support form, your name, email address, subject, and message are sent to Formspree and made available to the site operator to handle your inquiry. Formspree may also process technical information such as an IP address to deliver the service and prevent abuse. This is separate from extension activity data.

You may also contact us directly at info@timothy-schlossareck.com. Direct emails are processed through our email service rather than the Formspree form. Support information is used to respond, troubleshoot, and follow up on your request, not for advertising. Providing support information is voluntary, but we need a reply address and a description of the issue to answer. Avoid including chat contents, sensitive information, or activity exports.

Where an inquiry concerns a contract or steps requested before entering a contract, processing is based on Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. For other inquiries, processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in answering questions and providing support. Processing necessary to meet a legal obligation is based on Article 6(1)(c) GDPR.

Support correspondence is kept while the inquiry is open and any necessary follow-up remains outstanding. Once the matter and follow-up are complete, correspondence is deleted unless a statutory retention obligation or an ongoing legal dispute requires retention. Where such an exception applies, only the information needed for that purpose is retained until the obligation ends or the dispute is finally resolved.

Formspree processes data under its own privacy policy. Depending on your location, its processing may involve international transfers.

6. Website hosting and third-party services

This website does not include advertising or analytics trackers. It is hosted by Vercel. To deliver the website and protect it against abuse, Vercel may process IP addresses, request timestamps, requested URLs, browser information, and request or error logs. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: our legitimate interest in providing a reliable and secure website. These technical data are necessary to deliver the website.

Technical logs are retained for operational troubleshooting and security purposes and deleted when no longer needed for those purposes, subject to the hosting provider’s applicable retention settings and any legal preservation requirements. Opening the Chrome Web Store or WhatsApp Web is subject to those services’ own privacy policies.

Vercel and Formspree may process information outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. GDPR requirements for international transfers apply. The applicable transfer mechanism and retention settings depend on the service arrangements in effect; a particular adequacy decision or contractual safeguard is not asserted by this policy. For information about the arrangements applicable to your data and copies of relevant safeguards, contact the controller above. See also Vercel’s privacy policy.

7. Deleting your data and your choices

To remove extension-local records and preferences, open Chrome’s Extensions page, find Presence Journal, and choose Remove. Delete any separately exported CSV files from your downloads, trash, and backups as appropriate. Removing the extension does not delete those exports.

We cannot access, retrieve, or delete the extension records on your device remotely. To exercise your rights regarding website or support data, email info@timothy-schlossareck.com and identify the email address associated with your inquiry. We may need to verify your identity.

Subject to the conditions of the GDPR, you have rights of access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction of processing (Article 18), and data portability (Article 20). Under Article 21, you may object to processing based on Article 6(1)(f) on grounds relating to your particular situation. If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

You also have the right under Article 77 GDPR to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU Member State of your habitual residence, place of work, or the place of the alleged infringement. You do not have to contact us first. The European Data Protection Board’s directory lists supervisory authorities.

8. Updates and contact

This policy may be updated as the product or legal requirements change. The latest version will be published on this page with an updated date.

For privacy questions or support-data requests, contact Presence Journal through our support page.
